Less known than Teide and although more modest, the volcanoes of western Tenerife offer equally fascinating landscapes and often much quieter. These volcanoes allow us to get closer to the geological soul of the island. The contrast between the black rock, the pine forests and the vast panoramas of the valleys and the ocean creates a unique atmosphere.
I highly recommend exploring this part of the island, easy to reach from my guesthouse Un Jardin al Mar and a true paradise for hikers, with well-marked trails, breathtaking landscapes and a peaceful atmosphere, away from the tourist bustle.

The Chinyero volcano is famous for having experienced Tenerife’s last eruption, in 1909. At about 1,560 meters above sea level, it is surrounded by a vast field of black lava that forms a striking contrast with the surrounding vegetation. The circular trail of the Chinyero is an easy and accessible hike for everyone, ideal to discover these lava flows frozen in time, the Canarian pines that slowly grow back on volcanic lands and vast silent expanses with raw charm.
Nearby is the area of Arenas Negras, another volcanic sector formed by ancient eruptions, in the heart of a fragrant pine forest. The name literally means 'black sands', in reference to the volcanic ash that covers the ground.
It’s my favorite volcano in Tenerife, with a real lunar landscape atmosphere! 🥰

Whether you are passionate about volcanoes or simply looking for a different hike in the heart of nature, the volcanic west of Tenerife will surprise you with its wild beauty and tranquility.
An ideal getaway to reconnect with the land and enjoy unique landscapes, far from the crowd!
