Tenerife is an island that stands out as much for the richness of its landscapes as for the variety of its trees, among endemic species, generous fruit trees and spectacular blooms.

The dragon tree (called "drago" here), living symbol of the Canaries, is undoubtedly the most emblematic tree. With its sculptural trunk and red resin nicknamed "dragon blood", it has fascinated for centuries. Close to my home, the most famous, the millennium dragon of Icod de los Vinos, 18 meters high, is a must: imposing and mysterious, it would be more than 800 years old! You can admire it by visiting the "Parque del Drago milenario" or from the terrace of the restaurant "Casa del Drago" located right next to...

Another giant of the landscape, the Canarian pine reigns over high altitude forests. Fire-resistant thanks to its thick bark and ability to repel after fires, it is also a valuable source of shade and freshness.

In the more humid forests of the north, such as the region of Anaga, we enter the kingdom of laurisylve, this subtropical type of prehistoric vegetation where laurel trees, tree ferns, yew trees and viñátigos dominate. These forests enveloped in mist evoke another time.

Among the introduced species, the eucalyptus has acclimatized well to some areas of the island, with its silvery foliage and recognizable smell.

On the orchard side, Tenerife is a true fruit garden: avocatiers, almond trees, mango trees, medlars, lemon trees, orange trees offer an abundance of fragrant fruits almost all year round, not to mention the vine, very present. In some areas, papayers and guava trees can also be found.

Finally, the ornamental trees paint the villages and roads in bright colors in spring and summer, such as the flamboyant red, with its spectacular flowering, or the jacaranda, which covers the sidewalks with mesmerizing purple flowers.

Trees that nourish, that amaze, and that tell in their own way the history and diversity of Tenerife.
